1. New Spoken AAC Update is Available

From Evan Lauer, Spoken Inc:

Version 1.9.1 of Spoken – Tap to Talk AAC has been recently released on the App Store and Google Play.

The update adds exciting new features, including:

  • Five voices, plus the debut of two new accents
  • An “incognito mode” feature for discussing sensitive topics without influencing Spoken’s predictive text
  • Hundreds of additional word icons/symbols
  • Two user-requested personalisation options
  • And more!

2. New Unity AAC App for iOS

Unity®, the research-backed Minspeak vocabulary system trusted by AAC users worldwide, is now available on iOS.

Unity AAC is a motor-planning based language system which supports language development from first words to conversations, making it suitable for many communicators. It offers multiple access methods including head-tracking, and a range of vocabulary sizes. The app is available on iPad and iPhone.

4. Paving The Way – Online Launch Event

From the Council for Disabled Children:

Join the Council for Disabled Children and Partners in Care and Health for the online launch of ‘Paving the Way’, a resource developed to support practitioners working with autistic young people who are moving on from children’s social care and health services into adulthood.

This event is designed for practitioners working in health, education and social care.

Date: Friday 5th September 12.30-2pm. Register for this free online event here.

What to Expect:

  • Expert by experience – hear from Louise Chandler, autism advocate and expert by experience
  • Keynote Speakers – gain insights from the Council for Disabled Children and Partners in Care and Health

  • Networking & discussion – connect with others across the country who are committed to making moving on from children’s social care and health services smoother and more effective.
