Study Day and Workshop on Symbols & Literacy

These two courses will be held in June at Manchester Metropolitan University and led by Janice Murray (MMU) and Martine Smith (Trinity College Dublin).

Symbolisation Towards Literacy Study Day – 15 June 2015

This popular course has previously been run by Communication Matters in London and Stirling, with great reviews. This time it is being held in Manchester. It will explore the relationship between symbol communication and the development of literacy. By the end of the day, participants will be: provided with a framework to appraise symbolic communication; introduced to a framework for identifying how to use symbolic communication in pre-literacy activities; and introduced to a framework for formal literacy training where AAC use is a core component of the process.

And now, by popular demand, a follow up workshop…

Symbols, Language & Literacy: Follow Up Workshop – 16 June 2015
This course, organised by Manchester Metropolitan University, offers attendees an opportunity to develop practical, evidenced activities to support language and literacy development through aided communication technologies. Please note that it is only for those who have attended the Symbolisation Towards Literacy Study Day (in London, Stirling or Manchester) and wish to advance their practical knowledge.
