Area covered
Predominantly the Northern Region (Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Durham, Northumberland, Gateshead and Cumbria) but also Scottish Borders and Yorkshire.

Population served
3 years to 19 years in school. Adult service 18 years upwards.

Scale
Total numbers currently across three schools = 210, adult services approximate 200 at present and increasing – not all clients require AAC.

Services provided
– Assessment for educational or adult day care placement
– Assessment for specific AAC systems
– General advice to families
– Training for families and other professionals

Staffing
Staffing ratios are high across the Foundation. We employ teachers, support staff, carers, employability and advocacy workers as well as physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists.

Across the Foundation there are:
– 14.8 WTE Speech and Language Therapists
– 12 WTE Physiotherapists
– 10 Occupational Therapists

Funded by
The Percy Hedley Foundation is a charity but placement is funded for children by their Local Education Authority and for adults by the LSC or Social Services and Health.
